Tim Floyd Resigns as USC Coach. "Few" Can Fill His Shoes

USC Head Men's Basketball Coach Tim Floyd has resigned, sighting that he no longer is able to give the enthusiasm that is necessary to be a head coach. I believe that Few can fill his shoes, I mean Gonzaga Head Coach Mark Few.

Coach Few would be the perfect man to succeed Floyd. He's still a relatively young coach, and he's proven himself time and time again during the last 10 years as Head Coach of the Zags. Ever since he took over the Gonzaga Program in the 199-200 season, when Dan Munson left for Minnesota, Few has gotten the Bulldogs into the NCAA Tournament every year, and has made it to the Sweet 16 four times. His overall record is 264-66, a .800 winning percentage the last 10 seasons.

Just recently, Mark Few was awarded a very prestigious honor. He is one of six coaches selected to serve as court coaches for the 2009 USA Basketball Men's U19 World Championship and World University Games team trials. The other five coaches are Arizona State's Herb Sendek, Johny Estele of Navarro College, Mike Anderson of Missouri, John Beilein of the University of Michigan, and Alan Magnani of Iowa Wesleyan College. Coach Few had this to say about the opportunity: " To be involved with USA Basketball is a great honor," said Few. "I'm looking forward to the experience of being a part of something that represents our country. I think it will be a great experience. I will have the opportunity to work with some of the outstanding players at the collegiate level and to exchange ideas and philosophies with some of the best coaches in the game."

As I said before, Few would be a great hire for USC. It would probably be a step up for him financially, and he would be coaching in one of the top Div. 1 Basketball conferences in the country, the PAC-10. However, Few has spent his entire coaching career at Gonzaga and loves the school as well as the city of Spokane, WA. They in turn love him. He may not want to leave the Zags. It would have to be the right situation for him and his family as well as the right time. But if it is, Mike Garrett, the Athletic Director at USC, should strongly consider Mark Few as the Trojans' next Men's Head Basketball Coach. In this case, Few is more.
