Abilene Christian's String of Championships Snapped

For the first time since 2001, neither the Men's' or Women's' Track & Field Teams of Abilene Christian University will not win an NCAA Div. ll Indoor or Outdoor National Championship.

For the last 8 years, whether it be Men's or Women's, Indoor or Outdoor, the Wildcats have won a National Title. That streak was snapped this year. the Men finished seventh in the team standings in this years Outdoor Championships and the Women finished sixth.

However, one ACU decathlete one an individual NCAA Div. ll Title, and setting several records doing it. ACU Sr. Camille Vandendriessche finished the NCAA Div. ll Outdoor National Championships with 7,674 points, nailing down his third straight NCAA Div. ll Multi-Event National Title. Vandendriessche is the first in NCAA Div. ll history to win three straight multi-event championships, the third athlete in NCAA history to win three straight multi-event championships, and the fourth athlete in NCAA history to win three multi-event titles in a career. But probably the most meaningful thing for the Sr. from Paris, France was that for the first time, he was performing in front of his father, Laurent, who was in the USA for the first time to See his son compete.

Abilene Christian has a long history of success in Track & Field, and while I don't know for sure, has probably produced some U.S. Olympians. To go eight years straight winning at least 1 National Title from either the Men or Women, Indoor or Outdoor, says a lot about the University's Track & Field Program. The Wildcats have one of the best programs in the country, if not the best at any college level. More information on the ACU Track & Field Program can be found at www.acusports.com
